    Summary

    Leonardo’s Horse is a biography of Leonardo da Vinci as well as being a story about one of his unfinished sculptures.

    When da Vinci learns that the duke of Milan wants a bronze sculpture of a horse made to honor the duke’s father, da Vinci applies for the job.

    He is accepted and begins work, studying the anatomy of horses and drawing them in various poses. In , da Vinci finished the clay model of the horse, which was to be twenty-four feet tall; however, for some reason he put off casting the model in bronze.

    Then, in the duke confiscated the bronze that was to be used for the sculpture, to use in preparation for the imminent French invasion. When the French did invade, the clay model was destroyed, never to be recreated during da Vinci’s life.
