Former JSerra football player Christopher Castillo is being remembered as a dedicated and positive teammate and fierce competitor on the field after he died early Sunday morning in a car crash in Kansas.

Castillo, who played football for Tabor College in Kansas, and his teammate Johnethon Aviles of Paso Robles died in a single-vehicle crash shortly before 4 a.m.

on a rural road south of Hillsboro, authorities told the Associated Press. The college is located in Hillsboro, about 50 miles north of Wichita.

“Chris was a wonderful young man, hard-working, dedicated teammate, and full of joy,” said former JSerra football coach Pat Harlow, who coached Castillo in high school.

“He always had positive attitude, a can-do-it personality, and a smile that j
